Position of Concern Grows Thin

September 5th, 2010 | by brooksbusch |

On September 3, 2010, Colts defensive tackle, Fili Moala, was arrested in the early morning for driving while under the influence and speeding. Moala was the Colts second round pick in the 2009 draft, and was expected to be a key contributor on the defensive line. The loss will make an already thin defensive line for the Colts even thinner, and with the Houston Texans on the schedule for week one, the loss of Moala could prove to be a significant void upfront. With the NFL seemingly cracking down on incidents detrimental to the league, it is certainly plausible that the former USC standout could be facing a suspension.

Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, and Jerry Hughes all capable of getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks, the Colts have been looking for a defensive tackle capable of plugging up the middle and stopping the run. The Colts selected Moala in the second round of last seasons draft with the intentions of finally finding that plug. Although Moala has shown flashes, he is still developing and trying to live up to the expectations. Moala does not haveĀ  any prior behavior issues in the NFL, so he may not receive any discipline. However, the possibility of a suspension remains, and the Colts appear to be waiting on a possible game-changing suspension.
