AFC South Predictions: Week 6

October 17th, 2009 | by brooksbusch |

AFC South Prediction Record: 11-9

Indianapolis Colts (5-0): Bye Week

St. Louis Rams (0-5) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3)

Although the Rams may have dodged a bullet with Rush Limbaugh dropping his bid for the team, they are not getting any breaks at all on the football field. The Rams are 0-5 and must travel to Jacksonville to face a Jaguars team that has something to prove. The Jags were absolutely throttled by the Seahawks last week and were outplayed in every aspect of the game. Although neither team has played well at all this season, Jacksonville has at least fielded a competitive team in most of their games. I give the edge to an angry Jacksonville team, and I expect the frustrations of Maurice Jones-Drew to be released upon this awful Rams team.

Houston Texans (2-3) @ Cincinnati Bengals (4-1)

The Bengals are one tipped pass away from being 5-0, and are simply finding ways to win ball games. With a much improved defense and a rejuvenated combination of Cedric Benson and Carson Palmer, the Bengals sit atop the AFC North. On the other hand the Texans have been as inconsistent as any team in the NFL this season, and have struggled to stop opposing offenses. The Texans have had no problem putting up points, Andre Johnson has 437 yards and 4 touchdowns this season and Matt Schaub has 1,418 yards and 10 touchdowns. Although the Bengals have done a great job of playing physical this season and competing at a high level, I see the Texans pulling the upset in this one. Coming off an emotional win against the Ravens, the Bengals may be at risk of having a letdown against Houston. If the Texans offense comes out firing on all cylinders, it could spell trouble for this Bengals team who has relied heavily on a well-balanced offense and good defensive play.

Tennessee Titans (0-5) @ New England Patriots (3-2)

Who would of thought that the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots would come into this week 6 matchup with a combined 3-7 record? Tom Brady has still not regained his MVP caliber form with only 1,344 yards and 6 touchdowns, and the Patriots running game is certainly not striking fear into the hearts of opposing defensive coordinators. However, Kerry Collins went from managing games last season, to losing them this season. Collins has thrown 7 interceptions this season and fumbled once, and some fans are calling for Vince Young to step in. Although the Patriots have not lived up to preseason hype, they are still 3-2 and still firmly in position to win their division. Things are not looking any better for the Titans this week, as I expect the Patriots to rebound off a tough loss against the Denver Broncos.

Patriots 27     Titans 17
